imagesSamsung continues to dominate in the phablet niche thanks to its innovative Galaxy Note handsets. The original Galaxy Note which was launched in 2011, and the current Galaxy Note 2 model remain popular choices, but this has led to a lot of speculation about the next instalment of Samsung’s phablet series. Recent speculation from several sources has suggested that the Galaxy Note 3 may see a radical design overhaul.

In recent weeks, a number of sources have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may be the first Samsung Galaxy device to sport an aluminium unibody, replacing the plastic casing used on previous versions in the series. Speculation of this change has been further fuelled by the success of a number of aluminium smartphone models such as the HTC One and Apple iPhone 5. Earlier this week, @evleaks posted photos of a potential Samsung Galaxy Note 3 prototype on its twitter account. This source has gained a large following each and a reputation for providing accurate leaked images of a smartphone models before they have been announced by their manufacturers. Recent examples which have demonstrated this are the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One. The photos, which can be found over at uSwitch show a device which is very different in appearance to the currently available Galaxy Note models. For example, it has much more angular corners than the current models, and appears to sport a redesigned home button and thinner bezels at the edge of the screen. However, the photos do not make it clear whether or not the device is made out of aluminium.

Of course, Samsung is yet to officially announce the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, so this device is by no means official, but certainly worth taking note of given the track record of the source. It is expected that the Galaxy Note 3 will be unveiled this September in Berlin, at the IFA trade show. We can expect much more news and rumours about this device in the coming weeks, so we will be sure to keep you updated when we hear of any developments.
